I need an empty nest makeover.\u00a0 The kids are gone and the house is empty.\u00a0 I should have lots of time on my hands, but for some reason, my project list (composed primarily of half finished projects) grows longer.\u00a0 Hardwood stairs. Check.\u00a0 Well, half check.\u00a0 The 3 steps to the basement are not done.\u00a0 Walk-in closet.\u00a0 Half check.\u00a0 New expanded bedroom.\u00a0 Quarter check.\u00a0 The list goes on and on.<\/p>\n
Perhaps it is that I haven\u2019t completely embraced this new phase of my life.\u00a0 Instead of using my free weekends to get my honey-do list knocked off, I am finding myself planning trips to universities, watching volleyball games, prepping for medical school interviews.\u00a0 Perhaps that is what I should be doing, because that is what I love\u2026\u00a0 spending time for and with my kids.<\/p>\n
I miss my girls. I find myself \u201ccreepin\u2019 their facebook profile\u201d which, if you don\u2019t know, is a very uncool thing for mothers to do.\u00a0 Friends who post witty sayings on their wall = cool.\u00a0 Mothers who \u201clike\u201d those posts = totally uncool!\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Maybe I just don’t want to have an empty nest plan now.\u00a0 I have had plans for years as a parent and am not quite ready to let that go. \u00a0\u00a0I must admit, I do like the empty refrigerator and smaller grocery bills.\u00a0 I like less laundry and shopping.\u00a0 I like no interruptions when I am reading.\u00a0 I don’t like being a distant mother.\u00a0 I don\u2019t like not knowing where they are when I want to chat, or how they are doing in their classes.\u00a0 Are they studying enough?\u00a0 Is the prof fair?\u00a0 For now, they are at school, and all seems to be well.\u00a0 I am here, totally confused about this life of distance.\u00a0 I try not to text or email too much… Sometimes I give in to that need.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
